Delivering the Award PDF Print E-mail

Young Cumbria works in partnership with Clubs for Young People to co-ordinate the Award programme, and aims to support its Members and other organisations working with young people to offer this Award programme as part of their work.

A partnership agreement would be established, detailing roles and responsibilities and quality assurance procedures.  Organisation wanting to offer this programme would also need to ensure that their staff who are involved in the delivery and support of the Award, have undertaken an approved one day training course, ‘Introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’.  The training provides workers with the background, knowledge and skills to ensure the effective delivery of the Awards and to ensure they remain of a high quality.

Visit our training page to find out details of the next training opportunities and costs.

Award workers are required to support young people throughout the completion of their Award.  This may be as a leader, delivering specific sessions and training for the programme, or as a facilitator, encouraging and signposting young people to appropriate activities which will enable them to work towards individual targets.

There are specific requirements for training/leading/assessing of the Expedition section.  Please see the ‘Expedition Section’ for more information.  You do not need to be an outdoor instructor to facilitate and encourage young people to complete this section, but work alongside individuals who have the necessary qualifications and experience.
