Duke of Edinburghs Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award aims to provide an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development for young people aged between 14 and 25yrs, which is of the highest quality and widest reach.

The Award is underpinned by 10 Key Principles:

  • Non-competitive
  • Available to all
  • Voluntary
  • Flexible
  • Balanced
  • Progressive
  • Achievement Focused
  • Marathon not a Sprint
  • Personal Development
  • Enjoyable!

Young Cumbria work in partnership with Clubs for Young People to co-ordinate, deliver and ensure access to the Award programme in the following ways:

  • Open Award Centres (click here fore more information)
  • Youth Work Delivery – the Award is available alongside vibrant youth work curriculum, delivered by Young Cumbria workers
  • In Partnership – Young Cumbria aims to support its Members and other organisations working with young people to offer this Award programme as part of their work, by establishing partnership agreements based on quality delivery

The Award programme can itself be the focus of youth work sessions, but also used to enhance and complement a varied and vibrant curriculum.  Please see the ‘Recent Projects’ page for examples of current delivery.
