Overview
The Award is divided in to three levels:
- Bronze – for young people aged 14ys upwards
- Silver – for young people aged 15yrs upwards
- Gold – for young people aged 16yrs upwards
Subject to the minimum age requirements, young people can enter the Award at any level.
All Awards must be completed by the 25th birthday.
At each level of the Award young people have to undertake four activities, five at Gold:
- Service
- Skills
- Physical Recreation
- Expedition
- Residential Project (Gold Level Only)
Young people must participate in each section for a specified time period, with the minimum time commitment for completing a full Award varying from 6/12/18 months depending on the level of Award and if the young person is a ‘direct entrant’ (has not completed the previous level of Award).
Skills Section
Aims to encourage participants to pursue activities within a wide range of practical, cultural and social environments, developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
Service Section
Aims to encourage Service to individuals and to the Community within the following areas:
- People in the Community
- Emergency Services
- Environmental
- Fundraising
- Rescue
- Safety Training
Physical Recreation Section
Aims to encourage participation and improvement in physical activity in the belief that involvement in some form of enjoyable physical activity is essential for physical well-being
Expedition Section
Aims to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery by preparing for and carrying out an adventurous journey as part of a team.
Residential Project (Gold Award Only)
Aims to broaden young people’s experiences trough involvement with others in a residential setting, introducing young people to some form of purposeful enterprise in the company of others who are not known to them.
